Happy New Year! 2016 is here! We’re excited about the possibilities the new year brings. We’ve started a new business relationship this year, we are now an authorized B-Corporation, we’re breaking ground on two new resident’s homes, we’re planning new spec home builds, and we’re going to garden like never before!
As mentioned in a recent blog, we’ve begun a new business relationship with Living Room Realty (LRR), a real estate group that is grounded in the same sustainable principles as we are. The LRR brokers we’re working with, Gavin Shettler, Julia Robertson, and Nicolette Hannah are experts in green building, Earth Advantage certification, they are allied with Energy Trust, and are skilled marketers. We’re excited to start on this journey with LRR and look forward to the new energy they bring as we work together to grow Pringle Creek Community.
We’re now certified as a B-Corporation! A B-Corporation is a for profit company that meets rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Instead of a myopic focus on simply maximizing profit for shareholders, a B-Corporation’s mission includes benefiting society and the environment, too. We’re super excited to be a part of this corporate paradigm shift, and now, a larger network of other like-minded businesses working toward a more balanced and beneficial society, like Living Room Realty. More information about this new development coming soon!
We’ve got new neighbors! We’ll be breaking ground this month on two new homes built for two new families who’ll soon move in and join our community. One home will be in our Net Zero neighborhood, where homes are built on a slope that offers plenty of exposure to sunlight so that the houses can use solar panels to create enough energy annually to power the entire household. The other home will be located in the Cousteau Loop neighborhood, on the geothermal system loop. They’ll access the geothermal system through a water pump and will use the earth’s energy to help heat and cool their home. The house, like the others in the community, will be extra insulated saving a lot of money in utility bills. We’ll also be breaking ground on a number of spec homes this year. We’ll keep you up-dated as things progress.
We’ve made lot of progress in the glasshouses and are ready to grow even more produce this year. Our Urban Farmer, Colleen Owen, has increased the capacity of the glasshouses and will grow a lot of wonderful, fresh, organic produce for her Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) clients this year. 2015 was her first year managing, planning, and providing food for a CSA and she did a great job! This year she’s putting her experience to work, has the year planned out, and has wonderful varieties of veggies planned. The Pringle Creek Community CSA is nearly year-round – produce is available from June through February. She will also have a farm stand at the glasshouses so that people can come by and purchase fresh veggies for their lunch or dinner. There are still CSA shares available. Call Colleen at 503-315-1055 if you are interested.
Colleen will also teach her Urban Farming classes. The 8-class series, sponsored by our nonprofit, The Sustainable Living Center, is a hands-on, fun and engaging gardening learning experience that gives students information on topics ranging from fruit tree pruning, to soil composition, to pests good and bad, all the way to harvesting and canning. Classes start in February. If you are interested in joining this popular series of classes, email or call Colleen at Colleen@pringlecreek.com or 503-315-1055.
2016 promises to be a very exciting, active, wonderful, and fun year here at Pringle Creek Community. Come on by and visit to see for yourself! Perhaps 2016 will be a great year to make Pringle Creek Community your new home! The possibilities are endless.
