Have you ever had a day where you don’t know where the time went? A day that you woke up, the sun was shining and beckoning you to go outside and greet it? The day continues with preparing breakfast with the fam, then heading out for a walk about the neighborhood. You continue on a walking path both aimlessly and full of joy and contentment as you hear the rustle of leaves when the wind passes through them. You accidentally get your foot wet, because the glimmer of the creek hit your eye just right, but you laugh and keep on going throughout your day. Before you know it, it’s sundown. Where did the day go? That’s what happens when you’re having fun, you get lost in the moment. These types of moments happen in our community all the time.
We think it’s in part due to our connection with nature and community, and it’s innovation along with long-term ways of thinking that take us there. Being an Agrihood is awesome, and it’s definitely harkening back in the day when people grew food in their backyards. This time around, we grow food that’s not only fresh’n’local, it’s organic.
Weeding may sound like a chore at first, but sometimes it also has the affect of losing time. You’re more aware of the soil and the differing textures of the leaves when you pull the weeds out from the root or prune leaves from the tomato plants to allow for more aeration. All of these plant materials go right back into the compost, and gradually turn back into nutrients for future plants. Being more aware of your surroundings and feeling more connected to nature may make you feel more present altogether. We invite you to take a tour (we promise there won’t be weeding involved unless your green thumb is saying otherwise), and see how present you begin to feel in our urban oasis.
