We're going to celebrate the harvest and feature the fruits of everyone's labor. We're really excited to re-unite with Urban Farmers who've taken the Urban Farming class with us, to hear all about gardening successes and failures, and share kitchen creations made with gardening goodies: pies, veggie casseroles, salads
We were given an apple press and we've saved some apples and pears to crush - bring apples for pressing and juice containers. We'll make juice to drink, and share whatever we have in excess.
RSVP, please, so that we know to expect you.
We have three runner ducks who live happily alongside our many chickens here at Pringle Creek Community. The hen (& duck) house and run is located adjacent to our renovated glasshouses and community gardens. Local gardening kids named the ducks this spring soon after they arrived. Their names are Ash, Graham, and Marble.
Residents and CSA members benefit from the fresh, organic eggs the chickens and ducks provide. The gardens benefit, too, since the Lay-dees love to eat garden waste and their waste is GREAT for our compost!
Colleen, our Urban Farmer and all around gardening guru, tends to the chickens and ducks ...
Wowza! I've never seen so many ladybugs in one place! As part of our organic gardening, Colleen ordered and released about 10,000 hungry little ladies (ladybugs). They'll help keep the aphids in check (or eliminate them completely). Whew! Quite a site to see.
Our glasshouse gardens are doing great, giving us amazing veggies already! Kerry is making lunch for staff and some guests today and 'went shopping' across the street in the gardens. Such a pleasure to select and pick fresh veggies. It is an extra pleasure knowing how the vegetables were raised and appreciating the nutritious bonus they'll give all of us. Yum!
Our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares are nearly ready, too. We're so fortunate for such fresh deliciousness.
May flowers are blooming - on our trees, in our glasshouse, along the creek, and all around the property! We have mother-daughter yoga, neighbor movie night, salsa, and much more going on this month. Check out our latest newsletter to learn more about all the May happenings at Pringle Creek Community.
