Spring brings Green building

Spring has sprung and so has the building season.  Builders have broken ground on two new homes up in our Net Zero loop.  One will be a two-story custom home for new neighbors and the other is a single level, three bedroom, two bath home that we are building for resale.  Both houses will be highly energy efficient LEED and Net Zero certified. LEED certification ensures that they are built green, with sustainable methods and materials, and energy efficient systems throughout, while the builder also takes care to minimize waste and erosion.  LEED also signifies a home that is ... Great Titles in Our Little Library!

Our Little Library is just brimming with books, and they are excellent titles, too!  Our Little Library, registered with the Little Free Library nonprofit organization, is a handsome little box located out in front of our community center, Painters Hall, next to our newest park, Jane's Pocket Park.             Our Little Library was built by youth offenders at the Oregon Youth Authority and painted and decorated by girls in the local Daisy Girl Scout Troop, #10037. Helping the Chicken to Cross the Road

The chicken harness has arrived!  Now Colleen can safely take a chicken out of the coop and give her an opportunity to go for a walk.                   It really is just another bit of fun over at the glasshouses.  Colleen always has something fun or whimsical going on over there - from her little garden fairy houses to the butterfly houses, both created by her father, and now the chicken harness.  Colleen is always happy to share all that she is doing with visitors.  Besides all of the various vegetables that she is growing for the CSA (community supported agriculture) ... A Neighborly Gift of Trees

Pringle Creek Community is an unexpected pocket of serenity in south Salem where visitors and residents like to take time during their day for a walk.  Colleen, our Urban Farmer, always smiles and waves to those who come near to the glasshouses.  Some folks stop and chat, getting to know Colleen a bit better, discussing her work and the goings on around the gardens and orchards. One visitor is Dave Hunt who regularly walks his dog, Luna, around the Pringle Creek Community property.  He and Luna are very friendly. Luna is an exuberant 2 year old mix who is always wiggly ... Chainsaw Art Completes Our Newest Park

Local Salem chainsaw artist Kevin Strauslin has completed his work here at Pringle Creek Community leaving us with two new benches and some whimsical carvings, too! Many thanks to Mr. Strauslin for his creative work that has transformed our little pocket park into a truly comfortable place to sit, relax, and even take time to read a book from our Little Free Library.  This park is located just in front of our community center, Painters Hall.  The park and new benches, carved into the oak that rests where it fell last year, will also add a new dimension to future ...
